Process

1. Initial Measurements: The project began with a site visit to take precise measurements of the laundry room’s access point. Accurate measurements were crucial to ensure the trap door would fit perfectly and operate smoothly.
2. CAD Drawings: Using the measurements, our design team created detailed CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drawings. These drawings provided a comprehensive blueprint for the fabrication process, ensuring every component was meticulously planned.
3. Production in the Shop: With the CAD drawings finalized, the project moved into the production phase in our shop. Skilled fabricators cut and welded the steel components to create a robust frame for the trap door. This stage involved precise cutting, welding, and assembly to meet the exact specifications outlined in the CAD drawings.
4. Painting: After fabrication, the steel trap door was sent to the paint shop. Here, it received a high-quality, durable finish to protect against corrosion and wear. The paint also enhanced the door’s appearance, ensuring it blended seamlessly with the homeowner’s interior design.
5. Installation: The final phase involved installing the trap door at the homeowner’s residence. Our installation team ensured the door was securely fitted and operated smoothly. The installation also included integrating shock absorbers to assist in lifting and closing the hatch, given its substantial weight of 150 lbs.

Challenges

One of the significant challenges in this project was finding the best shock absorbers to assist in lifting and closing the heavy hatch. The trap door needed to be easy to operate despite its weight. After extensive research and testing, we selected high-quality shock absorbers that provided the necessary support and ease of use, ensuring the door could be opened and closed effortlessly.
